Day 5 - Llynnoedd Teifi on Friday 27th July

Travel and Parking: From the Event Centre take the A487 South from Aberystywth centre, then turn left onto the A4120 and immediately turn right onto the B4340, and take this road to Pontrhydfendigaid. From other directons approach Pontrhydfendigaid along the B4343 from which event signs will be found.

Large campervans: Parking will be at the Pafiliwn Bont in Pontrhydfendigaid. Please try and arrange your own lifts to Assembly but a marshal will be present until 11.30 to arrange a lift for you on a ‘flagging down’ basis. Car drivers with spare capacity are asked to offer space. (There may also be some bus transport from here.)

Other vehicles: Follow the signs for Strata Florida off the B4343 in Pontrhydfendigaid. Take the left hand fork at Strata Florida on to a single track road. Then ...

... cars, main car park: Main parking will be signed from approximately 1 km from Strata Florida. Turn left and follow a single track that becomes steep and uneven in places. Note that any delay on this section of the track will affect others arriving and disrupt the event. Please keep moving! If you are concerned about using this track (due for instance to travel in very low slung or underpowered cars) then follow instructions for small camper vans and subsidiary parking (next paragraph) ...

... small campervans, minibuses and subsidiary parking: Keep on the road from Strata Florida for approximately 1.5 km. The parking is 1.5 km from Assembly, with 80 m climb. Allow 30 minutes.

Flow of vehicles to and from the main and subsidiary car parks may have to be stopped on occasion to allow movement of emergency and local vehicles.

We will be operating a one way system with no exit from car parks before 13.00.

Bus drop off and pick up: This is in an enclosure adjacent to the subsidiary parking, with the same 30 minute walk to Assembly.

Assembly: In large flat field close to Frongoch farmhouse. The views are good but the area is exposed. There is plenty of room for club tents.

Terrain: A large scenic area of open moorland at an elevation of between 300 m and 550 m. It is mainly rough pasture interspersed with small lakes and areas of marsh. Whilst you will undoubtedly get your feet wet, most of the marsh is readily crossed. There are numerous rock features. Only the most significant of these - in the context of the area immediately around them - are mapped. There are few paths and these are often indistinct. The area is hilly, but careful route choice should enable most courses to be completed with significantly less than the quoted amount of climb. Photos.

Special symbol on map and control descriptions: A black X represents a marker post.

Start: There is only one, Red, Start which is accessed from the eastern side of the top main car parking field via a stile in a gap between two stretches of trees. It is a 2 km walk, mainly off track with a steady 100 m climb. Please allow at least 40 minutes and more if you are a slow walker. There is a slightly shorter option if you are parked in the subsidiary parking and do not wish to go via the Assembly field. However, this is steeper with 190 m of climb on the route.
