Day six - 9 August 2008
Clydach Terrace
Clydach Terrace is a totally new area located between Merthyr and Abergavenny..
The terrain
The terrain is a limestone area, with quarries, running down to complex former mining wasteland. It will be a great challenge on the last day.
The photo below is an areial photo of Clydach Terrace taken in 1991. The site has some great industrial history. This aerial view shows early mineral workings at Clydach Terrace. In the foreground are early ironstone workings with, nearer the Heads of the Valleys Road (visible along the top-left corner of this photograph), a mixture of ironstone and coal workings. The crescent-shaped trench between the two is the remains of early open mining along a five-feet coal seam.
The north of the area rns into open moorland.
The map
The map will be new for Croeso 2008. No extract is currently available.
