Foel Goch was always going to be a challenge due to a number of factors: namely limited parking, high complex terrain prone to poor weather, only one route back to assembly off Foel Goch and numerous landowners to work with. However what we had was an excellent team of people to face these challenges head on. Robert Griffiths was the stand out person who negotiated all access to the area and then took over the planning when the original planner’s schedule changed and had to stand down as he and his family were re-locating to Spain 1 week before CROESO. Robert also took on building and erecting all the stiles and assisting the farmer in preparing the entrance to the car park field (there was once a ditch at the entrance!).
Our thanks to all the helpers, 50 in all, the largest team we have had to manage, every one was experienced, had been to large events so knew what was expected and there were no organisational issues. What was also an excellent achievement was to have Dave Urch and Eunice Carter as the Start team leaders for each day, so that ensured that consistency at the starts could be achieved.
We hope you all enjoyed your courses and the views from the Red and Blue start. The assembly area was specially chosen for its compact nature and views of the Dyfi estuary. It was a testament to the sport that when we left at 18:30 there was no evidence (except some flattened grass), that over 2000 people had been on the hill and in the assembly field. No litter was left and no impact to the area could be seen.
Thanks goes to Dave Seward (Planner), Robert Griffiths (Planner), Clive Caffall (Controller) and Pat Macleod for their help and guidance.
