Training Event on Saturday 21st July at Esgair Gorlan

In order to give you a chance to stretch your legs after a long journey and/or to familiarise yourself with the West Wales terrain, the Welsh Junior Orienteering Squad has organised a training event at Esgair Gorlan, just 20 mins drive from Aberystwyth.

Details

Directions
The event will be signposted from the village of Ponterwyd (GR: SN748808, A on the map), some 19km east of Aberystwyth on the A44 to Llangurig. From Ponterwyd, take the minor road shown on the map opposite for a further 2.2km (to point B on the map - SN738826).

Parking
Cars will be parked as directed along the forest road along which a one-way system will operate. Campervans must park in a large signposted layby before reaching B.

Coaches
Those arriving by coach should contact the organiser on 01495 791454 (evenings only) to arrange parking on A44, as the minor road is unsuitable for larger vehicles.

Registration
Will be in the Assembly area at B. Fees are £3 for adults and £1 for juniors (proceeds to the Welsh Junior Squad)

  • Cake stall and refreshments for sale
  • No water at the Finish
  • No dogs in the terrain as there are sheep in the area; OK under control in the parking area.

Terrain
Open moorland typical of that used for Days 1, 2, 4 and 5, with some forest which is typical of Day 3.

Scale is 1:10000 with 5 metre contours

Courses
There are no formal courses and some 20 to 25 controls will be out in the terrain. No timing is offered (self timing only), so no SI cards are needed either.
The Start and Finish points are within 100m of Assembly.

Time
Controls will be available from 1200 and will be collected in at 1730.
